Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tarumanegara University (Untar) is currently preparing a dedicated campus in the field of engineering, in order to strengthen Indonesia’s human resources (HR) in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“The School of Engineering will be a one-stop service for the faculty and engineering study programs, and we will integrate it with a commercial area,” said the Chairman of the Tarumanagara Foundation, Prof. Ariawan Gunadi, after the Imlek celebration at the Untar Campus, Jakarta, Thursday.

Ariawan said that the campus, which will also be Untar’s fourth campus, will be equipped with various facilities such as distance learning, off-campus study programs, and joint and double degree programs through collaboration with domestic and foreign campuses.

A number of study programs, he said, have also been prepared, including engineering, civil engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), architecture, and others.

Ariawan explained that the School of Engineering building along with other commercial areas is being prepared in stages to be built on an area of 140 hectares in the Banten region.

He said that the construction will start from scratch. Currently, supporting infrastructure such as roads and pipelines is being prepared on the first 10 hectares.

“Hopefully, this can be done quickly, so I think we need about a year to develop all of this,” said Ariawan Gunadi.

Previously, strengthening HR in the STEM field was one of the priorities of the Indonesian Government in welcoming the Golden Indonesia 2045.

This step is part of the government’s efforts to build an integrated higher education and research ecosystem with the needs of the industry, so that Indonesia can compete in the era of economic transformation based on knowledge and innovation.

“The assignment is in the context of preparing for the support of several major government programs in the fields of plantations and marine affairs, which of course require human resources,” said Prasetyo Hadi.
