The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) Rector Akhmad Sodiq and five other individuals as suspects in an alleged corruption case related to new student admissions.

“Based on sufficient evidence and in accordance with the provisions of Article 90 of the new Criminal Procedure Code concerning the determination of suspects, the KPK has named six people as suspects,” said Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Friday.

Taufik said the five other suspects are Unsoed Vice Rector for Student Affairs Norman Arie Prayogo, ES as Head of the Academic Section at Unsoed, DMW and AW as private parties, and MYN as a nephew of Akhmad Sodiq.

He explained that the six suspects are alleged to have violated Article 12 letter e or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

The KPK subsequently detained the six suspects for the first 20 days starting from 21 August to 9 September 2026.

“The detention is being carried out at the KPK Merah Putih Building branch detention centre,” he said.

Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation against a number of parties from the Unsoed Rectorate on Thursday (20/8).

In the operation, the KPK secured 12 people in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, and two people in Jakarta.

Of the 12 people secured in Purwokerto, seven were taken to Jakarta for further questioning. Meanwhile, the two people secured in Jakarta immediately underwent examination at the KPK Merah Putih Building.

Thus, a total of nine people underwent intensive examination in connection with the sting operation.

The KPK also secured evidence in the form of cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah in the operation.

Unsoed Rectorate officials previously confirmed by the KPK to have been secured in the sting operation include Rector Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Norman Arie Prayogo, and Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance Kuat Puji Prayitno.

Of the three officials, Akhmad and Norman were subsequently named as suspects along with four other individuals, while Kuat was not among the six suspects announced by the KPK.

The KPK stated that the case relates to alleged receipt of money in the new student admissions process at Unsoed.
