Unsoed Rector Gratification Case: KPK Speaks Out on Fate of Extorted Students

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has uncovered an alleged extortion case related to new student admissions, or gratification, allegedly involving the Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Akhmad Sodiq, and his staff.

Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, has spoken out about the fate of students who were allegedly extorted in order to gain admission to the university.

“Indeed, there are those from 2025, including those from 2026. We can affirm that the KPK, in the context of the ongoing law enforcement, is not entering the realm of the students’ status,” said Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, during a press conference at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Friday evening (21/8).

“Therefore, the students concerned can continue their teaching and learning process as usual, because this is indeed not our domain in terms of law enforcement,” he continued.

However, the KPK has fully handed over matters of evaluation or correction to the rectorate and the Ministry of Higher Education.

“So, purely from our side of law enforcement, the criminal event occurred because there was power or authority from the university, namely the rector and the parties who assisted him, which was then negotiated and transacted with a sum of money, so that it falls under the construction of extortion or gratification,” said Taufik.

The KPK has named a total of six suspects in the alleged extortion case related to new student admissions at Unsoed, or the acceptance of gratification.

The suspects are Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq; Unsoed Vice Rector III Norman Arie Prayoga; Unsoed Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto; and three private individuals named Dian Mulia Wardhana, Adhi Wiharto, and Mulyono.

This determination follows a sting operation (OTT) in Purwokerto and Jakarta, as well as intensive examinations conducted by the KPK since Thursday (20/8).

The KPK has detained the suspects for the first 20 days, from 21 August to 9 September 2026. The detention is being carried out at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building branch of the State Detention Centre (Rutan).
