Unsoed Rector Caught in KPK Sting Operation over Alleged Bribery in New Student Admissions

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has apprehended a number of individuals in Purwokerto, Banyumas, Central Java, in a sting operation (OTT). This covert operation was conducted as part of an investigation into alleged bribery in new student admissions.

One of the parties arrested was the Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Prof Akhmad Sodiq.

“In the course of this operation, a hand-catch incident occurred involving suspected perpetrators of corruption,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Friday (21/8/2026).

Budi explained that a total of 14 people were apprehended in the series of sting operations. Twelve individuals were detained in the Purwokerto area, while the remaining two were arrested in Jakarta.

The two individuals arrested in Jakarta were taken to the KPK’s Merah Putih Building for intensive examination. Meanwhile, the 12 people arrested in Purwokerto underwent initial examination at the Banyumas Police Station before being transferred to Jakarta. Following that examination, seven of them were brought to Jakarta for further questioning.

“As of now, the parties detained in connection with the sting operation and currently undergoing questioning at the KPK total nine people,” Budi stated.

The KPK confirmed that this sting operation concerns alleged receipt of bribes by state officials in the new student admissions process. The KPK expressed regret over the suspected corruption occurring within educational institutions.
