Unsoed OTT: Campus Awaits Official KPK Explanation

Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, is awaiting an official explanation from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the sting operation (OTT) that has ensnared members of its rectorate.

Unsoed spokesperson Edi Santoso stressed that campus management does not yet know for certain the construction of the case or the legal status of the officials who were taken and examined by the KPK investigation team.

“The KPK is currently carrying out the examination process, but we ourselves do not yet know what the actual case is and what the legal status is of the people who have been taken there,” said Edi in Purwokerto on Friday (21/8).

On that basis, Edi said Unsoed has not been able to take an official stance or steps regarding the overhaul of the campus’s internal governance.

“We will wait for clarity first, so for the time being there is no stance at all. Of course we will respect all legal processes, but as for what it is like, let us wait for the KPK,” he stressed.

Previously, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto confirmed that Unsoed Rector Prof Akhmad Sodiq was one of the main officials arrested.

“There is also the Rector,” said Setyo in Jakarta on Friday (21/8).

Setyo also confirmed the arrest of Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof Noor Farid and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Prof Norman Arie Prayogo. However, Setyo admitted he had not yet received updated data regarding the status of Vice-Rector for General Affairs and Finance Prof Kuat Puji Prayitno or Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Public Relations Prof Waluyo Handoko.

“Details of the parties brought to Jakarta, I have not updated yet,” added Setyo.

In accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the anti-corruption agency has 1 x 24 hours to determine the legal status of the parties detained.
