Unsoed Lecturer Alleges Dean's Academic Fraud, Including Paper Fabrication

A lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Yanto, has revealed allegations of serious academic integrity violations involving a professor who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The case, which includes suspected plagiarism and paper fabrication, reportedly surfaced in 2024 but has yet to reach a fair resolution.

Yanto recounted that the chronology of the case began in May 2024 when he received information regarding the alleged plagiarism. He subsequently filed a report with the Rector of Unsoed, with a copy sent to the Directorate General of Higher Education, but received no response. Following the lack of action, Yanto wrote directly to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology in August 2025.

The report prompted a response from the Ministry, and in September 2025, a team from the Inspectorate General visited Unsoed to conduct field verification and interview relevant parties, including Yanto. According to information obtained by Yanto, the Inspectorate General’s audit report was issued in January 2026 and submitted to the Minister. The report allegedly concluded that the violations were proven and recommended the revocation of the dean’s professorship along with derivative sanctions.

However, Yanto claims that irregularities emerged in April 2026 when a re-examination was requested. By June 2026, the university submitted a report to the ministry stating that the dean was cleared of the plagiarism allegations. Yanto asserts that out of six papers examined, three types of fatal academic integrity violations were found: plagiarism in a paper published in 2023, fabrication of data in a 2024 paper, and falsification of data in a 2024 paper. He stressed that such violations should result in strict sanctions to protect the integrity of higher education.
