Unsoed awaits KPK explanation over arrest operation involving officials
Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, is still awaiting an official explanation from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding a sting operation (OTT) said to involve several officials of the university.
When contacted in Purwokerto on Friday, Unsoed spokesperson Edi Santoso admitted he did not yet know for certain the matter being handled by the KPK or the legal status of the individuals undergoing examination in the process.
“The KPK is carrying out an examination process, but we ourselves do not yet know what the actual case is and what the legal status is of the people who have been taken there,” he said.
He said the university had therefore not yet taken a further position because it was still awaiting a determination or official statement from the KPK regarding the matter.
According to him, the university will convey its position after obtaining official clarity regarding the ongoing legal process.
“We will wait for clarity first, so for the time being there is no position. We will of course respect all legal processes, but as to what it is, let us wait for the KPK,” said Edi.
Previously, the KPK carried out a sting operation described as the 19th OTT during 2026, securing a number of members of the Unsoed Rectorate.
KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said Unsoed Rector Prof Akhmad Sodiq was one of the parties arrested in the operation.
“There is also the Rector,” Setyo told ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.
Setyo also confirmed that Unsoed Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof Noor Farid and Unsoed Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Prof Norman Arie Prayogo were caught in the operation.
However, when asked whether Unsoed Vice-Rector for General Affairs and Finance Prof Kuat Puji Prayitno or Unsoed Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Prof Waluyo Handoko were also caught in the operation, he admitted he had not yet received updated information from his staff.
“I have not yet updated the details of the parties taken to Jakarta,” he said.
The KPK has 1 x 24 hours to determine the legal status of the parties detained in the operation in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
