Unsoed assures campus governance continues amid KPK case
Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, has assured that institutional governance and academic activities will continue to operate amid the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) handling of an alleged extortion and gratification case.
Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations (WR IV) Prof Waluyo Handoko, speaking at a press conference at the Unsoed Rectorate Building on Saturday afternoon, said Unsoed respects and supports the entire legal process currently underway in accordance with statutory regulations.
“Unsoed expresses deep concern over this matter. The institution views this issue as a serious event concerning integrity, justice and public trust,” he said.
He stressed that new student admissions should be transparent and free from corrupt practices.
In addition, Unsoed upholds the principle of presumption of innocence towards those who have been named as suspects until a legally binding court decision is reached.
Furthermore, Unsoed will coordinate with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) regarding institutional steps following the naming of three university leaders as suspects, including the mechanism for appointing acting officials and ensuring institutional continuity during the transition period.
He assured that institutional governance, public services and academic activities such as lectures, research and community service will continue to run normally and optimally with a number of adjustments.
He also urged lecturers, education staff, students and alumni to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and maintain a conducive campus environment.
“I believe Unsoed is committed to continuously improving governance to ensure that the new student admissions process and all academic services operate in accordance with the principles of accountability and are free from corruption, collusion and nepotism,” Waluyo said.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (WR I) Prof Noor Farid said Unsoed will consult with Kemdiktisaintek on a number of matters related to academic activities, including the implementation of graduation ceremonies and new student admissions.
In addition, the university will ensure that graduation ceremonies continue to proceed in line with the results of coordination and directives from the ministry during the transition period.
“We will consult with the ministry, including regarding graduation, so that its implementation can be ensured in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.
Regarding the independent admission pathway, he said Unsoed will follow the ministry’s provisions on the mechanism and proportion of new student admissions.
Concerning the fate of students who have already been admitted through the new student admissions process, Noor Farid said Unsoed will consult with the ministry to determine the next steps, including whether there are any sanctions or follow-up policies.
Previously, on 21 August 2026, the KPK named Unsoed Rector Prof Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector for Student Affairs (WR III) Prof Norman Arie Prayogo, Mulyono as Akhmad Sodiq’s nephew, Dian Mulia Wardhana and Adhi Wiharto as intermediaries, and Unsoed Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto as suspects in an alleged corruption case involving new student admissions at the state university.
Based on available information, the current Unsoed vice rectors are officials who were appointed during the first term of Prof Akhmad Sodiq’s leadership, namely 2022-2026.
Since Prof Akhmad Sodiq was inaugurated as Unsoed Rector for the second time on 19 May 2026 and has not yet appointed new vice rectors, the terms of the previous officials were extended from June 2026 until new officials are appointed.
