Unseeded players win French Open

PARIS (AFP): Unseeded George Rimarohdi and Elena Rybkina won
the men's and women's singles titles at the French Open badminton
championships here on Sunday despite little recent form on the
international scene.

Unseeded Indonesian Rimarohdi beat European silver medalist
and second seed Tomas Johansson of Sweden 10-15, 15-9, 15-11 in
an hour and 10 minutes in his first senior international in
Europe.

And Elena Rybkina, who had to compete in the qualifying event
for her first round place, beat compatriot and second seed Marina
Yakusheva 11-4, 11-1 in the women's final in only her second
tournament after giving birth.
