UNRWA stresses the protection of civilians in Gaza as an urgent priority

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has affirmed that the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip is a critical humanitarian priority amidst the deteriorating conditions in the region.

The agency also emphasised the importance of ensuring safe and sustained access to humanitarian aid for the population.

Through its official website, UNRWA stated that support for humanitarian workers and the protection of humanitarian facilities and infrastructure are essential to ensure the continuity of vital services.

These services include basic healthcare, education, emergency assistance, and food aid for the most vulnerable families.

UNRWA mentioned that it continues to operate in the Gaza Strip despite facing significant challenges, in accordance with the UN mandate to ensure that aid reaches hundreds of thousands of refugees who heavily rely on the agency’s services.

The UN agency also called for the creation of a safe environment so that humanitarian teams can carry out their duties without obstacles, ensuring the protection of civilians and the continued flow of humanitarian aid to all those in need in the Gaza Strip.
