Gaza City (ANTARA) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) requires 100 million US dollars (Rp1.8 trillion) to continue operating until the end of the year, UNRWA spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna told RIA Novosti on Wednesday (1/7).

“UNRWA needs approximately 100 million US dollars to continue its operations until the end of the year,” said the spokesperson.

The organisation has taken several steps to save funds, he said. However, further tightening of these measures could jeopardise its services in healthcare, water provision, solid waste management, and other areas responsible for basic services, Abu Hasna added.

At the same time, UNRWA is operating in extremely difficult conditions, as the Gaza Strip has been totally destroyed and its reconstruction will require billions of dollars, he said.

In this regard, UNRWA is a key factor in ensuring regional stability, while its collapse could lead to destabilisation in the region, Abu Hasna added.

“Approximately 280,000 school children in the Gaza Strip are learning online and around 60,000 are continuing full-time education under difficult humanitarian conditions,” the spokesperson added.

On Wednesday (1/7), the US-led Gaza Peace Council stated that UNRWA “has no place in Gaza,” because the people of Gaza deserve better.

In November 2025, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2803 to implement the Gaza peace plan agreed upon by Israel and Hamas in October 2025.

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced the second phase of the plan in mid-January, which stipulates the withdrawal of Israel from more territories in the Gaza Strip, the deployment of International Stabilisation Forces, and the establishment of a new governance structure including the US-led Peace Council.

In May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip are inconsistent with international peace initiatives, including the Peace Council.
