JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned highway corporation PT Jasa
Marga has seized a large number of unregistered tow trucks for
illegally operating on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

PT Jasa Marga Spokesman David Wijayanto said over the weekend
his company had reported the case to the local police.

"The crew of the unregistered tow trucks will be prosecuted
for cheating car drivers whose vehicles had broken down on the
highway," he said.

Those whose cars are broken down on the highway should not
have paid for the tow truck service. PT Jasa Marga has been
operating 14 tow trucks on the Jakarta-Cikampek turnpike since
January. "We want to add six more trucks this month," David said,
adding that toll road users deserve free tow truck services.

Many people have complained about the operation of illegal tow
trucks, whose crews ask for between Rp 60,000 and Rp 100,000 for
a one-time service, Antara reported. (sur)
