Unram Student's Murderer Claims He Did Not Know Victim, Denies Sexual Assault

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mataram City Police has arrested Haikal, also known as H, the perpetrator of the murder of Nadya Dwi Ramadhany (21), a student at the University of Mataram (Unram). Police have confirmed that Haikal was not a close acquaintance of the victim.

Haikal admitted that he did not know Nadya before the incident. He also claimed to have acted alone.

“Alone. Didn’t know her,” Haikal said when met at Mataram Police Headquarters on Wednesday (29/7/2026).

According to the perpetrator’s confession, Haikal initially intended to steal from the victim’s boarding room. However, when he was caught in the act, he admitted to killing Nadya spontaneously.

After taking the victim’s life, the perpetrator left with two mobile phones and the victim’s motorcycle. He stated that he never sexually assaulted the victim.

“Never,” he said.

Haikal admitted he was frightened after killing the victim. While on the run, he said he only hid within the Mataram area and denied that he had intended to flee to Malaysia.

“Yes, I wanted to go work elsewhere, not to flee,” he said.

For context, Nadya was found dead in her boarding room in the Gomong area, Selaparang District, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Sunday evening (17/5/2026). The young woman, a native of Beru Village, Jereweh District, Sumbawa Regency, NTB, was discovered by a friend who came looking for her at her boarding house.

The victim was found lying face-up and the body had already begun to emit a foul odour. The boarding room was locked from the outside, and the victim’s mobile phones and motorcycle were missing.
