Mataram (ANTARA) - The University of Mataram (Unram) is designing a fire mitigation system through the Sade Integrated Recovery & Reconstruction Masterplan as part of the reconstruction process for the Sade Traditional Village, located in Rembitan Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The Chairperson of the Sade Rapid Response Team (TCT), Uram Rini Srikus Saptaningtyas, stated that the reconstruction focuses not only on rebuilding burnt structures but also on improving the safety and comfort of the area. “Safety means that instead of the previous haphazard electrical wiring, we will implement a proper setup,” she said in Mataram on Saturday.

The reconstruction of Sade is being coordinated by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government through the Assistant II of the NTB Regional Secretary, alongside village and hamlet heads representing the community. In the preparation of the masterplan, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) provides supervision, while Unram conducts the studies and technical designs.

According to her, one of the prepared designs is an underground electrical system to reduce fire risks. This system is being designed by Unram’s mechanical and electrical engineering teams as part of the masterplan.

Hydrants are also being considered as an alternative fire protection measure. Additionally, the team is designing extra exit routes on the other side of the Sade area to strengthen evacuation access. “So, people will no longer have to exit through the same way they entered; there will be an exit on the right side,” said Rini.

In addition to fire mitigation, the team is mapping the area’s contours to design a drainage system. This design is based on field surveys covering the technical, social, economic, and cultural conditions of the community.

Despite implementing several new safety elements, the reconstruction will maintain the traditional architectural character of Sade. Rini noted that the forms of the bale, bale tani, bale bonter, bale kodong, sekenem, and berugak will still refer to the original shapes and the local wisdom of the community.

This approach ensures that the reconstruction does not alter the identity of Sade’s traditional buildings. Adjustments are primarily made to meet the community’s needs for safety and comfort without losing the fundamental structure of the buildings.

Currently, Unram and relevant parties are finalising the Sade Integrated Recovery & Reconstruction Masterplan. The document is targeted for completion by the end of September and will serve as the technical basis for the reconstruction of the Sade area following the fire.

The preparation of the masterplan is based on mapping and field studies, ensuring the design covers not only the burnt buildings but also the overall spatial arrangement of the area. She emphasised that the entire reconstruction process continues to respect the local wisdom of the Sade people.

“We are still referring to the original form of the bale. In fact, we are reverting it back to its initial condition,” concluded Rini.
