Unpad Postgraduate Students Reschedule Pig Feast Screening
The Chairman of the Postgraduate Student Association (HMP) at Universitas Padjadjaran, Enaldi, stated that the committee will reschedule the watch-together and discussion event for the film Pesta Babi at Unpad in Bandung, West Java.
The rescheduling of the film screening will be communicated to Unpad’s Directorate of Student Affairs after the 16 May 2026 date did not receive permission due to it being a holiday. Enaldi said the event date is still being coordinated internally with HMP Unpad officials.
“Hopefully next week on a weekday it can be held,” Enaldi told Tempo on Thursday, 14 May 2026.
Enaldi explained that the organising committee had previously obtained permission for the agenda. However, the permit was revoked because the holiday commemorates the Ascension of Jesus Christ and includes a joint leave day. The Directorate of Student Affairs also asked the committee to reschedule the event outside 14-17 May 2026. “We will submit a new letter for the rescheduling on a weekday,” he said.
The Postgraduate Student Association at Unpad plans to hold an event titled Watch-Together, Film Analysis & Public Discussion of the Film Pesta Babi at the Bale Rumawat Building on the Unpad campus in Bandung on Saturday, 16 May 2026. However, the campus has not granted permission for the event.
Based on a notice letter from Unpad’s Directorate of Student Affairs seen by Tempo, they cannot grant permission for the activity as it coincides with the holiday for the Ascension of Isa Almasih and joint leave.
Unpad’s Director of Student Affairs, Inu Isnaeni Sidiq, confirmed the letter. According to Inu, in line with the letter dated 13 May, the campus rejected permission for 16 May because it falls on a holiday.
“We ask that it not be held on holidays or joint leave days. Why? Because our staff must also have time off,” Inu said when contacted by Tempo on 14 May 2026.
Inu stated that he has no issue with discussion activities in general. Especially since the event organised by HMP Unpad is intended for academic purposes. In fact, Inu said, the campus will ask the organising committee to produce a publication from the discussion results to be published in a scientific journal.
Inu also allows the committee to reschedule the event on another date outside 14-17 May 2026. “As long as the venue is available, why not?” he said.
Contacted separately, the Head of Unpad’s Public Communication Office, Dandi Supriadi, said that regulating event permissions is standard for all student organisations holding events on campus during holidays. “Of course, they will not receive permission because the campus is on holiday with no facilities and infrastructure staff working,” Dandi told Tempo.
According to Dandi, the rejection of activity permissions is not unusual at Unpad, especially regarding event schedules or venue availability.
Dandi emphasised that Unpad will not obstruct discussion activities on any issue as long as they remain within academic bounds.
The screening of Pesta Babi planned by a content creator in Bandung is also facing obstacles. Content creator Albiansyah planned a limited watch-together at one of the cafes on 16 May 2026. However, he was forced to find a new location after being informed that the venue owner was prohibited from holding the screening event.
“Now I’m still looking for a new place,” Albiansyah said when contacted by Tempo on Thursday, 14 May 2026.
Albiansyah does not know who prohibited the screening of the documentary film.
The screening of Pesta Babi has come under scrutiny following various bans and dispersals in different locations. Previously, a watch-together of the documentary film Pesta Babi at the Student Activity Unit Building at Universitas Khairun in Ternate on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, was dispersed by a uniformed TNI officer.
A campus security officer arrived to document the watch-together activity of the film by directors Dandhy Dwi Laksono and Cipry Paju Dale.
The dispersal of the Pesta Babi screening in Ternate had occurred previously. On 8 May 2026, officers dispersed a similar event at Benteng Oranje in Ternate.
A Pesta Babi watch-together organised by students near the PKM Building at Universitas Mataram (Unram) on Thursday night, 7 May 2026, was also dispersed by the campus. Dozens of campus security personnel stood in front of the screen and covered the projector prepared by the committee.
Unram’s Vice Rector III, Sujita, then came to meet the students. She emphasised that the film screening was not permitted. “No reason, just not allowed to watch,” Sujita said, met with shouts from hundreds of gathered students.
Sujita claimed to have watched the film that is currently widely discussed. According to her, the film’s content is not suitable for screening in the campus environment. “Its content discredits the Republic of Indonesia government. I’ve watched it. Up to your views, clearly its content insults my country,” she said.
