Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) in Bandung has provided an official response regarding allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a professor (initials IY) from the Faculty of Nursing. The case came to public attention after screenshots of conversations with an indecent tone, allegedly directed at a foreign exchange student, circulated and quickly went viral on social media. In response, the campus, through the Family of Students’ Executive Body (BEM Kema) Unpad and the Faculty of Nursing, has taken initial steps by coordinating with Unpad’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS). This coordination also involves the faculty dean and university leadership. “We are aware of the report circulating on social media X (Twitter) regarding alleged sexual violence involving (the lecturer with initials) IY. Currently, BEM Kema Unpad and BEM Kema FKep Unpad have and will continue to coordinate with Satgas PPKS Unpad, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Padjadjaran, and the Unpad Rectorate,” stated BEM Kema Unpad on Instagram, quoted on Thursday, 16 April 2026. In the statement, the BEM also expressed deep concern over the alleged verbal sexual harassment experienced by the victim. They emphasised that no form of sexual violence can be tolerated, especially in an academic environment that should be a safe space for all students. “We affirm that no form of sexual violence can be justified under any circumstances, and such actions have no place in the campus environment,” they said. Furthermore, the student organisation affirmed its solidarity with the victim and commitment to supporting all necessary protection and recovery processes. “BEM Kema Unpad and BEM Kema FKep Unpad declare our solidarity with the victim and fully support all efforts for protection, accompaniment, and recovery for the victim,” the BEM stressed. The statement also emphasised the importance of seriously addressing all forms of sexual harassment in the campus environment. BEM representatives assessed that allowing such cases to go unaddressed would only worsen the situation and threaten students’ sense of safety.
