Unpad Alliance Calls on Prabowo to Withdraw from BoP

The Padjadjaran University Anti-Imperialism Alliance highlights the state of foreign policy under President Prabowo Subianto. The alliance contends there has been a moral retreat in that stance. In a formal statement by the Unpad Student Family Executive Board, the alliance expressed disappointment with the government’s response to unprovoked attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran. According to the alliance, the government’s position is normative, overly neutral, and reluctant to condemn the military aggression of Israel and the US. ‘Indonesia, which constitutionally rejects all forms of colonialism, should not take a position that de facto normalises imperial violence,’ said the Unpad Alliance in its statement dated Thursday, 5 March 2026. The alliance says the Israeli and US military aggression against Iran violates state sovereignty and the principles of international law. The government’s failure to explicitly name the aggressors, the alliance argues, amounts to a betrayal of the pledge of global order. Not least, the idea floated by Prabowo about readiness to mediate between Iran and Israel-US. According to the alliance, mediation without a firm political stance condemning the aggressors risks making Indonesia a mere accessory to legitimising global violence. ‘Mediation without a clear ethical position is not active diplomacy but a compromise with injustice,’ said the Unpad Alliance. The Unpad Anti-Imperialism Alliance calls on Prabowo Subianto to condemn the Israeli and US attacks as breaches of sovereignty and international law. The alliance also demands that the government restore its foreign policy to the constitutional mandate of anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism, and not siding with peace that merely kowtows to weapon power. ‘To ensure every statement and strategic decision is taken after comprehensive study, based on constitutional principles, international law, and an inclusive, mature deliberation process,’ the alliance said. In addition, the Unpad Alliance calls on the government to withdraw from the Donald Trump‑created Peace Council. They also urge the cancellation of trade agreements with the US, arguing they harm the people and threaten economic sovereignty and national security.
