Unocal's RI oil discovery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Dow Jones): Unocal Corp. (UCL) said Monday the test of a second interval in the West Seno No. 2 deep-water discovery well offshore Indonesia flowed at a daily rate of 10,069 barrels of 39-degree API gravity oil and 9.5 million cubic feet of natural gas.

In total, the West Seno No. 2 well, in 2,800 feet of water, encountered 172 feet of vertical hydrocarbon pay in two zones at total depths of between 7,300 and 8,600 feet, the company said in a public statement.

The West Seno No. 2 well is on the Makassar Strait production- sharing contract area. Unocal Indonesia Company is operator of the Makassar Strait PSC and has a 50 percent working interest. Mobil Makassar Inc., a unit of Mobil Corp. (MOB), holds the remaining 50 percent.

The West Seno No. 2 well is Unocal Indonesia's second deepwater discovery offshore East Kalimantan in the Kutei Basin.

Last year, the company discovered the Merah Besar field, which is located about 13 miles southwest of the West Seno well. The Merah Besar field is located on the East Kalimantan PSC - where Unocal holds a 100 percent working interest - and Makassar Strait PSC.
