The case of alleged verbal sexual harassment involving a student at Semarang State University (Unnes) continues to unfold. The university’s Prevention and Handling of Violence Task Force (Satgas PPK) has now identified three victims in the matter.

Head of Public Relations at Unnes, Surahman, revealed that the case originated from a report via the complaint hotline with Number 020/KS/VI/2026 on Wednesday (17/6). The PPK Task Force immediately moved to identify and collect evidence from the afternoon before the student mass action took place.

“Based on the investigation into the verbal sexual harassment case, Unnes PPK has identified three victims,” Surahman said on Friday (19/6).

Tensions peaked when information about the alleged harassment spread on social media. Hundreds of outraged students confronted the suspect, identified by the initials FA, on campus, specifically in the Unnes ATM Center area, on Wednesday (17/6) night around 11 p.m. local time until the early hours of Thursday (18/6).

The spontaneous action was triggered by student anxiety over the suspect’s behaviour, which was deemed disturbing. To prevent anarchic acts, police officers from the Semarang City Police immediately secured FA for further examination.

Head of the Women and Children Protection Investigation Unit at Semarang City Police, Kompol Ni Made Sriniti, stressed that the legal process is ongoing. Police are currently focused on collecting evidence, including electronic evidence in the form of chat messages from the suspect to the victims.

“So far, only one victim has been questioned. We urge other victims to report immediately so that this case can be thoroughly uncovered and the perpetrator receives a fitting punishment,” Ni Made Sriniti emphasised.

The university stated it will continue to follow the applicable mechanisms in handling the alleged sexual harassment case at Unnes, while ensuring the PPK Task Force works optimally to provide protection for victims within the academic environment.
