Semarang (ANTARA) - Semarang State University (Unnes), through its Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP), plans to invite experts and students from five countries to the “FIPP International Forum 2026” to discuss various contemporary education issues.

FIPP Unnes Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Farid Ahmadi said in a statement in Semarang on Sunday that the event is a tactical step to expand international exposure through an “inbound” scheme.

“We are bringing foreign academics and students to campus to build an international academic atmosphere within FIPP,” he said.

The forum is not merely an academic gathering but also brings together speakers from the five countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Gambia, and Kyrgyzstan.

The “FIPP International Forum 2026” is planned to be held at the Dean’s Building and the A6 Building of FIPP Unnes on Thursday (2/19), carrying the theme “Contemporary Issues on Education and Psychology.”

The main stage will be given to international students currently studying at Unnes as well as high-achieving FIPP students. They will examine current issues in education and psychology from the perspectives of their respective home countries.

He emphasized that the involvement of students as the main actors is a long-term investment. “This is crucial for training public speaking skills at a global level. Our students need portfolios and real experience presenting at international forums,” he said.

FIPP International Forum 2026 Committee Chair Wulan Aulia Azizah ensured the event would be more than just a ceremony. In addition to the seminar, other key agenda items include a guest lecture by an expert from Malaysia and a student exchange program.

“Internationalization must not stop at the presence of foreign guests. It must continue with concrete collaborations such as joint research, co-publications, and student mobility,” she said.

She said FIPP Unnes plans to follow up on a memorandum of understanding with partners in Malaysia by advancing it to a memorandum of agreement (MoA) and implementation arrangement (IA). This step includes credit transfer agreements that would allow courses taken by foreign students at Unnes to be officially recognized at their home institutions.

“This forum is a strategic step to sustainably strengthen FIPP’s international exposure,” she said.
