Unmul promotes green innovation to support sustainable development
Samarinda (ANTARA) - Universitas Mulawarman (Unmul) Samarinda, East Kalimantan, is reinforcing its commitment to developing research based on tropical regions to drive green innovation that supports national sustainable development.
This commitment was demonstrated through the 4th National Seminar on Tropical Engineering (SNRT), themed “Tropical Engineering and Impactful Campuses: Driving Green Innovation for National Development,” held at the Hexagon Building of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Unmul, Samarinda.
The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at Unmul, Prof. Dr. Lambang Subagiyo, stated in Samarinda on Friday that the “Impactful Campus” concept represents a moral commitment by higher education institutions to ensure that every research output provides tangible benefits to society and industry.
“I hope we can continue to collaborate within the research ecosystem to produce beneficial publications,” said Lambang before hundreds of participants at the hybrid seminar.
According to him, East Kalimantan, with its unique geographical characteristics and tropical ecosystem, requires specialised engineering approaches that prioritise sustainability and green efficiency.
The scientific event, which also serves as part of the 24th Anniversary celebrations of the Unmul Faculty of Engineering, marks the continuation of a strategic partnership between Unmul and PT Pertamina (via Pertamina EP Sangatta Field) that has been established since 2022.
This cross-sector synergy between academia and the energy industry serves as concrete evidence of both institutions’ commitment to overseeing the energy transition, industrial efficiency, and environmental management in East Kalimantan.
Through this partnership, now entering its fourth year, various scientific ideas from the lecture halls are being aligned with technical field requirements, particularly in addressing climate change issues and the environmental reclamation of tropical areas.
The SNRT 2024 series commenced with a public lecture featuring speakers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia, PT Pertamina management, and senior academics from Unmul.
The plenary discussion examined strategies for research downstreaming, green material innovation, and the implementation of smart infrastructure in tropical regions.
Through this 4th SNRT event, Unmul is further establishing its role as a centre of excellence for tropical engineering in Indonesia.
All scientific papers presented will be published in the SNRT Proceedings (ISSN/ISBN) and accredited scientific journals.
