Depok – University of Nusa Mandiri (UNM), as a Digital Business Campus, continues to encourage students to learn directly from the industry through practical field-based learning. This is exemplified by a business interview conducted by Management students visiting the Mie Khangen food business.

The activity forms part of the learning process to understand firsthand how a food business is launched, managed, and sustains itself amid the intense competition in the evolving food industry.

The interview was conducted with Mie Khangen’s owner, Drs H Markiyat, who established the business on 10 May 2010. Students participating included Siti Hollilah, Muchamad Zaidan Alfachry Kusbara, Muhammad Rifqi Aunur Rahman, Lewisky Nova Sihotang, Moehammad Haikal Pratama, and Martin Bagus Priyana.

During the interview, students explored key aspects of business management, including Mie Khangen’s origins, marketing strategies, operational management, and financial management.

Mie Khangen is known as a food business offering healthy vegetable-based noodles as its primary differentiator in the competitive food industry.

From the interview, students learned that business success depends not only on product quality but also on adaptive marketing strategies, continuous innovation, excellent service, and the ability to read market needs.

Beyond discussing success strategies, students gained insights into business challenges such as shifting consumer preferences, intense competition, and the need to adapt to industry developments and market trends.

UNM Management Study Programme Head Instianti Elyana praised the field learning experience. Direct exposure to the business world, she explained, is crucial for developing students’ competencies to be better prepared for the workforce or starting their own ventures.

Thus, students do not just learn theory in class but also understand business realities firsthand through field experiences. ‘This is vital for fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, analytical skills, and readiness to face challenges in the workplace and business in the digital era,’ she stated in a statement quoted on Friday, 29 May 2026.

She added that real-world experience from entrepreneurs like Drs H Markiyat provides tangible inspiration for students to innovate and build resilience in business. ‘Learning directly from practitioners helps students understand that building a business requires consistency, creativity, and adaptability. This experience is invaluable for developing relevant and competitive business ideas,’ she said.

Through this activity, UNM continues to provide practical and industry-relevant learning. Students are expected to develop business analysis skills, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit to tackle future challenges in the creative and digital economy.

With the spirit ‘Turn Dreams into Achievements’, UNM remains committed to producing graduates who excel academically and are ready to become competitive young innovators and entrepreneurs.
