UNM Students Introduce AI Chatbot 'Garuda Cyber Shield' to Combat Phishing
Students from Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM) have introduced an innovative educational tool called Garuda Cyber Shield, a chatbot powered by a Large Language Model (LLM), designed to enhance public literacy on digital security. The initiative was presented during a community outreach event for PKK members in Limo District, Depok, on Friday (26/6/2026), as part of the Student Creativity Programme (PKM).
During the session, participants received education on various phishing modus operandi commonly spread through messaging services, social media, email, and other applications. The students also equipped attendees with knowledge to identify suspicious links, protect personal data, and take appropriate steps when encountering indications of digital fraud.
Fadila Hairinnisa, a member of the PKM team, stated that Garuda Cyber Shield serves as an interactive learning platform. She noted that the community outreach was an initial step to introduce the innovation and gather feedback before further development. The team aims to make the public more aware that phishing threats can target anyone and to provide an accessible educational medium to help people recognise and avoid digital scams.
The initiative received a positive response from participants, with many sharing personal experiences of fraudulent messages impersonating banks, marketplaces, and government agencies. Nuriah, a PKK cadre in Limo District, appreciated the direct educational approach, emphasising that such knowledge is crucial given the widespread use of digital technology in daily activities.
Titin Kristiana, the supervising lecturer, remarked that the project demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be utilised for public education. She expressed hope that the innovation would enhance digital security literacy and serve as an accessible solution against the evolving threat of phishing. She added that Universitas Nusa Mandiri consistently encourages students to create technology-based innovations that provide tangible benefits to society.
