Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) has stated it is fully handing over the case of an alleged domestic violence incident involving one of its lecturers to the authorities. The case will be processed according to the applicable law.

UNM spokesperson Burhanuddin in Makassar said he was not yet aware of the details of the alleged domestic violence case involving the lecturer, but the university supports a thorough investigation. “Yes, we leave it to the authorities if the family has reported it to the police,” he said.

Regarding the threat of sanctions against the perpetrator, UNM is choosing to wait and see how the situation develops, including awaiting legal certainty.

Previously, the victim’s mother, identified as M, stated that a report regarding her child’s domestic violence case was filed with the West Sumatra Regional Police on 19 January 2026, as the victim is currently in Padang with her parents.

The alleged domestic violence was experienced by the victim while the couple resided in the Patemon area of Semarang City, Central Java, from mid-2024 to mid-2025. At that time, the reported individual was also a lecturer at a state university.

According to the victim’s mother, the domestic violence continued to occur frequently while they were in Makassar until the end of 2025. Eventually, on 1 January 2026, the victim fled her husband’s home to Padang because she could no longer endure the abuse.

The victim’s parents hope the case will be resolved quickly and that the suspect receives a fitting punishment. Meanwhile, the victim is still traumatised and experiencing pain in several parts of her body as a result of the violence committed by her husband.
