Unlucky for Nabilah O'Brien: Becomes a Suspect After Being a Victim of Theft and Facing a Rp1 Billion Damages Claim
The proverb ‘it never rains but pours’ seems to be what Nabilah O’Brien, owner of the Bibi Kelinci restaurant, is experiencing. She has become a suspect for alleged defamation on social media after being reported to the Indonesian Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) by a married couple with the initials ZK and ERS. ZK and ERS are a couple accused of taking food from Nabilah’s restaurant without paying. According to CCTV footage, ZK and ERS were seen entering the kitchen area, which is a restricted zone for customers. They then protested to staff because their food orders had not yet been served. ‘Restricted areas mean entry is prohibited, right? And it sparked a dispute,’ said Nabilah’s lawyer Goldie Natasya Swarovski to reporters on Friday (6/3/2026). According to Goldie, after the altercation, ZK and ERS left the restaurant carrying 14 meals they had ordered without paying. A restaurant employee attempted to pursue them to collect payment, but the request was ignored. Based on the printed receipt, the restaurant’s loss from the incident amounted to Rp 530,150. Following the incident, Nabilah posted the CCTV footage showing ZK and ERS’s actions to social media. However, the demand letter was not responded to. Nabilah then reported ZK and ERS to the Mampang Prapatan Police. Shortly after, ZK and ERS returned with a counter-demand letter seeking Rp 1 billion in damages as a settlement condition. Nabilah rejected the claim. After that, ZK and ERS reported Nabilah to the police for allegedly distributing the CCTV footage on social media. Goldie asserted that her client uploaded the video to prevent a similar incident from recurring elsewhere.
