JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A video containing a message of gratitude from a foreign national from Poland, Andrezej Skorski, went viral on social media after his mobile phone, which was snatched in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, was successfully found by the police.

The video was uploaded to the official Instagram account of the Menteng Police, @polsekmetromenteng_official, on Friday (15/5/2026).

In the video, Andrezej is seen receiving his black mobile phone back from officers of the Menteng Police.

The video of Andrezej was uploaded shortly after a case of mobile phone snatching against a foreign national from Italy, with the initials CL, also went viral on social media on the same day.

The Head of the Menteng Police, Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, emphasized that the two cases were two separate incidents, with different locations and victims.

“The incident involving the Polish national occurred on May 8, 2026,” he added.

Braiel confirmed that the perpetrator of the snatching against Andrezej Skorski had been arrested.

After that, the mobile phone belonging to the man from Poland was successfully returned.

At the time of the incident, CL was waiting for an online ride-hailing service when his mobile phone was snatched by the perpetrator.

According to Braiel, the victim had reported the incident to the Menteng Police.

However, as of Friday afternoon, CL’s mobile phone had not been found, and the police were still investigating the perpetrator.

“The perpetrator’s modus operandi is random, targeting victims who appear to be careless on the side of the road,” he said.

“So far, we have not found any evidence of a connection between the perpetrators or a conspiracy among the snatchers,” said Braiel.
