Unlike Malaysia, Indonesia Does Not Limit Quota for Subsidised Fuel
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has emphasised that the government has not yet implemented restrictions on the purchase of fuel oil (BBM), particularly subsidised BBM.
This situation differs from that of the neighbouring country, Malaysia, which has decided to limit the quota for subsidised RON 95 fuel from the previous 300 litres per person per month to 200 litres.
Bahlil stated that the government is continuously working to maintain the supply and stabilise fuel prices amid disruptions to global oil distribution due to the Middle East conflict.
“Up to now, we have no option to limit subsidies. That means there is no price increase for subsidised (BBM). It remains the same,” Bahlil said at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).
According to him, this policy is taken considering the conditions of society, especially low-income economic groups, to keep them protected.
Bahlil said this is in line with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, who emphasised the importance of safeguarding the interests of the people.
Bahlil added that the government will continue to monitor the development of the global situation, including the potential for prolonged conflict in the Middle East.
Policy evaluation will be carried out dynamically following global developments that can change within weeks or months.
“This dynamic we will follow. The dynamics are very fast. It can be per week, can be per month. The important thing for us is how to ensure that the stock for all BBM can be clear,” said Bahlil.
