UNJ Details Tuition Fee Determination and Appeal Mechanism for New Students

Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) has announced the mechanism for determining single tuition fees (UKT) for new students in the 2026/2027 academic year. Head of Public Relations and Information Syaifudin stated that the UKT grouping is conducted through a verification and validation process of the prospective student’s economic conditions after they have been declared successful in the selection process. The data verified includes parental income, number of dependents, and other supporting aspects. “UNJ implements a layered system to ensure objectivity, including administrative evaluation and, if necessary, additional clarification from the family of the prospective student who has passed the entrance test,” Syaifudin said in a written statement on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The verification results form the basis for determining the UKT group, ranging from the lowest to the highest tier. Syaifudin explained that this mechanism is applied to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency in education financing. Additionally, UNJ provides a mechanism for submitting adjustments or objections to the UKT for students who experience changes in economic conditions or feel the assigned fee does not match their family’s financial capability. The submission is made through an official university procedure by attaching supporting documents, and each request will be reviewed by a verification team. “The decision taken prioritises the principles of accountability, transparency, and alignment with the student’s real conditions,” Syaifudin stated. He said the mechanism is part of UNJ’s commitment to maintaining fair and sustainable access to higher education for all students. The UKT determination refers to the Rector’s Decree Number 140/UN39/HK.02/2026 for D4/S1 programmes and the Rector’s Decree Number 148/UN39/HK.02/2026 for S2 and S3 programmes. These two regulations serve as the legal basis to ensure the UKT determination mechanism at UNJ is carried out in a measured, transparent, and accountable manner.
