University's programs closed
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Education and Culture has
ordered the University of North Sumatra (USU) in Medan to close
two degree programs after two years of operation because they
were introduced without Jakarta's permission.
Director General for Higher Education Bambang Soehendro said
on Tuesday that the Nursing Sciences program run by the School of
Medicine and the Forestry Science program offered by the School
of Agriculture were launched without the approval of the
ministry.
"We did not give them permission because they failed to meet
our requirements for laboratory facilities and lecturing
personnel," he said.
The 50 students of nursing science and the 78 taking the
forestry program will be moved to other programs in the two
schools at the university, Bambang said. (pwn)
