University Student in Semarang Embezzles Dozens of Motorcycles to Fund Lifestyle and Prostitution
A student from a state university in Semarang, identified as Ibra Maulana Ibrohim (23), has been apprehended by the Ngaliyan Police after allegedly embezzling dozens of motorcycles from various victims. The perpetrator operated by renting motorcycles from friends and juniors under the pretext of re-renting them, but instead pawned the vehicles to third parties without the owners’ consent.
Ngaliyan Police Chief, Commissioner Aliet Alphard, stated that the case came to light after several victims reported that their vehicles were never returned. “From our investigation, the perpetrator admitted to embezzling approximately 40 motorcycles. The modus operandi involved renting vehicles from friends and juniors, then pawning them without the owners’ knowledge or permission,” said Aliet.
According to the police, the suspect repeatedly exploited the trust of his peers, mostly within his university circle. From the proceeds of pawning these vehicles, the suspect admitted to earning Rp138 million, which was used to fund personal needs, a lavish lifestyle, and ‘open BO’ (prostitution) activities.
During the investigation, the Ngaliyan Police Criminal Investigation Team successfully recovered approximately 40 motorcycles that had been pawned by the suspect. These vehicles were located across several regions, including Demak, Kendal, and Batang Regencies.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the Semarang City Police, Commissioner Riki Fahmi Mubarok, urged the public to be more cautious when lending or renting vehicles to others. “We advise the public to be more careful when lending or renting vehicles to others. Ensure that identities and the intended use of the vehicle are clearly verified to avoid similar criminal acts,” said Riki.
Riki also emphasised that anyone who believes they are a victim in this embezzlement case is encouraged to visit the Ngaliyan Police Station, bringing relevant documents or proof of vehicle ownership for further processing and data collection.
