University Student Hit by Stray Bullet: Human Rights Commission Calls for Urgent Evaluation
“Following the incident, I communicated directly with the Commander of the XX/Imam Bonjol Military Regional Command, and he responded swiftly,” said Krismadinata, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (03/06/2026).
Krismadinast stated that his team immediately deployed ambulances to transport the two victims to a nearby hospital. In addition to the female student, the other victim is a relative of a student currently located within the campus area.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has reminded relevant stakeholders to ensure such cases do not recur. “Moving forward, coordination is essential to ensure that similar incidents do not happen again,” stated the Chairperson of Komnas HAM, Anis Hidayah, in Padang on Wednesday.
Anis Hidayah was responding to the reports of two civilians allegedly hit by stray bullets near the UNP Rectorate area on Tuesday (02/06) afternoon at approximately 17:05 WIB.
According to Anis, the incident involving stray bullets directed towards a campus environment must serve as a collective evaluation. This is because such situations are feared to impact the sense of security for the public, particularly the academic community, in the future.
“Stray bullets can create a chilling effect; we must ensure this does not lead to a climate of fear for students performing their activities on campus,” Anis remarked.
On the other hand, Anis welcomed the swift actions taken by the university authorities, who immediately coordinated with relevant agencies, particularly law enforcement, regarding the case. One of the most vital steps that must be taken is to provide and guarantee a sense of safety for the campus community.
