University Student Electrocuted While Cleaning Water Tower in Tangerang

A university student identified by the initials BL (21) was electrocuted while cleaning a water storage tower in Tangerang Regency, Banten. The victim suffered seizures and became rigid after receiving an electric shock. BL was undertaking a community service programme (KKN) in Kampung Korelet, RT 01 RW 03, Ranca Kelapa Village, Panongan District, Tangerang. He accidentally touched an electrical current from the tower’s automatic float switch. “The student, who was doing KKN in the village, intended to clean or drain the water tower at his residence. When climbing the tower pole, the victim touched the electrical installation,” stated the Tangerang Regency BPBD via its Instagram account @bpbd.kabtangerang on Tuesday. The victim spontaneously slumped onto the tower after being shocked. The incident occurred this morning at around 10.00 WIB. However, the victim did not fall to the ground because his body was caught and held by the metal frame of the tower pole. Local residents were startled upon seeing the victim and attempted to help. “It was reported that the victim’s body was convulsing and became rigid on top of the tower pole. Eyewitnesses who saw this tried to help, but the victim’s body was stiff and stuck on the tower,” the statement continued. Witnesses then called the Tangerang Regency emergency hotline at 112. The BPBD Operations Centre, upon receiving the report, immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Curug headquarters. “The evacuation proceeded smoothly using a pulley system. The victim was immediately taken to a nearby clinic for further treatment,” the agency said.
