University riots
University riots
From Kompas
The Trisakti student riot has been widely covered by various
media. I am one of the female students who witnessed the disaster
at the university campus in Grogol, West Jakarta.
Cars were badly damaged, college rooms were attacked with
stones, hit with pieces of wood and broken bottles.
As a student, I thoroughly regret the incident, as do many
other students.
But what is really to be regretted is the attitude of the
university's management, who on a previous occasion, at their
discretion, halted all campus activities after a fight, which was
actually not quite the right action to take.
With this latest incident, all students were sent home for two
weeks. Why is it that the university's management appears to lack
intent and interest to settle, once and for all, the problem with
these unruly students? Yet, the students act in a brutal and
deliberate manner, being fully aware that they are dangerous and
inflict losses on others.
What is it that the university board fears and is trying to
protect?
