University probes students' conduct

SEMARANG: The administrators of state-run Diponegoro University said the names of two students studying there match names on a list of people whom the authorities said took part in recent anti-government demonstrations in Jakarta.

Assistant Rector Sarjadi said the authorities had asked the university to check its enrollment files against a list of five names of people who took part in this month's protests in the capital denouncing the integration of East Timor with Indonesia.

Of the five, one was an East Timorese and the others were students from Central Java, he said.

"We cannot know for certain that these two did take part in the demonstrations. Their names simply matched those given to us by the authorities," Sarjadi said. (emb)
