The University of Indonesia (UI) has launched the UI Peduli Ramadhan (UI Cares Ramadan) programme as a demonstration of concern for communities still affected by disasters in Aceh and North Sumatera.

“This programme does not merely distribute essential aid, but also brings a message that these communities are not alone in facing difficult times,” said Erwin Agustian Panigoro, Director of Community Relations, Media, Government and International Affairs, at the UI Depok Campus on Tuesday.

Through the programme, UI is distributing 230 food aid packages to communities in Pidie Jaya District, Central Tapanuli District, and South Tapanuli District. The assistance packages are intended to help ease basic needs during Ramadan whilst providing some comfort during the ongoing recovery process.

A village representative expressed gratitude for the university’s attention. “Thank you to UI for the assistance given to our community. We hope this aid becomes a blessing for those of us who receive it, and also for UI for having shared during this Ramadan month,” the representative said.

These food aid packages represent more than just basic necessities—they symbolise continued care from those in distant places. During Ramadan, a month filled with significance, even the smallest acts of compassion can bring great hope.

Through the UI Peduli Ramadhan programme, UI hopes that the spirit of solidarity and social concern will continue to grow, whilst strengthening relationships between higher education institutions and communities. After all, Ramadan serves as a reminder that amidst limitations, there is always room to support one another.
