Students from the University of Indonesia (UI) and UPN “Veteran” Jakarta held a demonstration in front of the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) in South Jakarta on Friday afternoon. The action was a response to the death of student AT in Tual, Maluku, who was allegedly beaten by a Brimob officer, Bripda MS.

The protest participants arrived on Friday (27 February 2026) at approximately 16:00 local time. Several police officers were stationed at the main gate of the National Police Headquarters.

The police personnel deployed at the location wore white peaked caps and white scarves around their necks.

Shortly thereafter, students from the University of Indonesia arrived at the site. Wearing yellow university uniforms, they carried various protest placards and materials.

Several students attempted to interact with and pose for photographs with the stationed officers, standing directly in front of the police line.

One student confronted a police officer, pointing at him and raising his voice. The student claimed to have encountered the officer during a previous demonstration.

“I remember your face clearly, you’re the one who insulted me back then, aren’t you,” the student shouted. “Look at me. Are you brave now? You’re the one who hit me,” he continued.

The police officer who was confronted and shouted at did not respond to the provocation. He merely smiled whilst remaining in position with his unit.

The student was subsequently pulled back by fellow student activists. The demonstration continued with speeches being delivered by the protest organisers.
