University entry test unchanged

JAKARTA: There will be no significant change to the upcoming state university admittance tests compared with previous ones, apart from changes to the examination committee.

Rector of Jakarta State University (UNJ) Sutjipto told The Jakarta Post on Thursday that, as in the past, the university entrance test, slated to take place simultaneously on July 2 and July 3, would be jointly organized by all 46 universities across the country.

But unlike in the past, each university would be allowed to name its own team to carry out the test, without having to report it to the Ministry of National Education.

Earlier this year, Minister of National Education A. Malik Fadjar issued a decree that terminated the national university entrance test (UMPTN) in a bid to allow free competition between senior high school graduates. But rectors of the state universities objected to the decision.

For the upcoming test, an application form for nature study or social sciences costs Rp 75,000 while a mixed-major form costs Rp 95,000. Applicants may obtain the forms individually or collectively through their schools, from June 17 through June 28. --JP
