University campus hazing

From Neraca

To reaffirm the Decree of the Minister of Education No.125/1979, Soenardi Dwijisusastro, the head of the legal and public relations department of the Ministry of National Education issued Decree No.38/DIKTI/Kep/2000 dated March 26, 2000, which prohibits hazing.

After deeming the action and behavior of university military members (Menwa) on campuses too militaristic and repressive, the public demanded that Menwa be disbanded. As a result, universities officially dissolved the organization following their joint statement made on March 11, 2000. As a result, it is no longer under the coordination of the Ministry of Defense.

Despite the above decree and the absence of Menwa on the campus, hazing, violence and military-style behavior on campuses still persists. The loss of life and reports of physical torture in a recent hazing incident proved that campuses seem unable to free themselves from violence.

I was deeply concerned when I read a report about seniors who acted snobbishly toward juniors, who shouted rude remarks and ordered them about, gave them uneducational assignments and ordered punishments that have been known to result in physical injuries or even death, as has occurred at Pajajaran University, UNS Solo, Gunadarma and many other universities .

What will related authorities do to prevent similar incidents from happening? We are looking forward to hearing about any action or punishment to be imposed on the offenders.
