Universities in Papua and PNG collaborate on maritime cooperation
Jayapura - The Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Arief Kusdwiadnanto said that three universities in Papua have partnered with three universities in Papua New Guinea (PNG) in maritime fields.
The collaborating Indonesian institutions are Cenderawasih University in Jayapura, Papua University in Manokwari, and Okmin University in Pegunungan Bintang. The PNG universities involved are the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) in Lae, and the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE), he added.
The agreement was signed during the Melanesian Ocean Summit 2026, held from 5 to 12 May in Port Moresby. The event was supported by WWF Papua, which brought together leaders from the three Papua-based universities.
Arief stated that the PNG universities are scheduled to visit Papua in June to review upcoming collaborative programmes.
