Universitas Terbuka: A Quality, Affordable State University Solution
Among the needs for pursuing higher education to improve quality of life, the reality is often hindered by classic obstacles, ranging from educational costs to time constraints for those already employed. Today, modern society has shifted towards choosing universities that are flexible and adaptive with pocket-friendly costs, such as Universitas Terbuka (UT).
As a State University (PTN), Universitas Terbuka employs an open and distance learning (PJJ) system. This system eliminates geographical and time barriers, allowing anyone, whether new graduates or part-time workers, to pursue higher education without having to abandon their daily activities.
One of the most attractive aspects of Universitas Terbuka’s presence is the cost scheme designed realistically for various segments of society. Starting from the initial fees, Universitas Terbuka implements a much lighter scheme.
For prospective students registering through the general or non-Recognition of Prior Learning (non-RPL) track, the initial registration fee is only Rp100,000. For the RPL track, a fee of Rp500,000 is required, covering the registration and the process of converting previous course grades.
Entering the study period for Undergraduate and Diploma programmes across various faculties, such as FEB, FHISIP, FST, and FKIP, Universitas Terbuka offers financial flexibility through a Semester Package scheme without face-to-face tutorials. For diploma programmes, educational costs start from approximately Rp1,150,000 per semester, while undergraduate programmes start from approximately Rp1,300,000 per semester.
For those who do not wish to take the package system, a Non-Semester Package System is available, with costs ranging between Rp35,000 to Rp120,000 per credit (SKS).
Universitas Terbuka also provides access to higher levels of education through postgraduate programmes. For the Master’s Programme, the financing components consist of an admission fee of Rp750,000 with tuition fees of Rp8,500,000. Meanwhile, for the highest level, the Doctoral Programme, the set admission fee is Rp1,000,000 with tuition fees of Rp12,500,000.
Overall, this cost scheme breaks the stigma that affordability means sacrificing quality. Domestically, Universitas Terbuka has obtained an ‘A’ grade University Accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT).
The quality of distance learning implemented by UT has also received strong international recognition, evidenced by holding quality certification from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), as well as institutional accreditation from the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU). This recognition ensures that UT graduates possess globally recognised competencies.
With the presence of Universitas Terbuka providing solutions to distance and cost, the opportunity to improve living standards is open to everyone. Official information can be accessed through the official Universitas Terbuka website at ut.ac.id or via the official Instagram account @univterbuka.
