The rapid advancement of technology has transformed the way people work, learn, and innovate. Amidst this swift digital transformation, the demand for human resources capable of creating new technology through research and innovation is increasing. Not only industry, but also government, research institutions, and universities require academics and researchers who can produce knowledge-based solutions.

Responding to this challenge, Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM), known as a Digital Business Campus, has introduced its Doctoral Programme (S3) in Informatics. The programme serves as a platform for professionals, academics, and researchers wishing to make a tangible contribution to technological development and Indonesia’s digital transformation.

Sofian Wira Hadi, Head of UNM’s Jatiwaringin Campus, stated that doctoral education is not merely about pursuing a higher degree, but represents an intellectual investment to generate innovations that benefit society. "An S3 education is not just about deepening knowledge, but also about producing research that provides real solutions for technological advancement and societal needs. Currently, our nation needs more researchers capable of addressing various challenges through research-based innovation," he said in a release received on Monday.

According to Sofian, developments in technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Cyber Security present significant opportunities for new innovations. However, these opportunities can only be seized if supported by quality research and human resources with strong academic competence.

He explained that the S3 Informatics programme at UNM is designed to equip students with the ability to conduct advanced research, produce reputable scientific publications, and develop innovations that meet the needs of both industry and society. Students are also encouraged to pursue research in strategic fields, ranging from artificial intelligence and cyber security to cloud computing, large-scale data analysis, and digital technologies that support national development.

"Research is the foundation for creating innovation. Through quality research, solutions emerge that can enhance the nation’s competitiveness, accelerate digital transformation, and provide real benefits to the wider community," Sofian said.

In addition to strengthening research competencies, doctoral students receive training in advanced research methodology, academic leadership, and international publication, as well as opportunities to build research collaborations with various national and international institutions. These competencies open up broad career paths for graduates, whether as academics, researchers, technology consultants, innovators, technology policy analysts, or strategic leaders in government agencies, research centres, universities, and technology-based companies.

As a Digital Business Campus, UNM continues to strengthen its research and innovation culture through a doctoral programme that is relevant to global technological developments. The programme is part of the university’s commitment to producing outstanding talent capable of generating scientific work, innovative technology, and impactful solutions for the nation’s progress.

Sofian expressed hope that more young people, academics, and professionals would be encouraged to pursue doctoral education as a long-term investment for Indonesia’s future. "A nation’s progress is largely determined by the quality of its research and innovation. Therefore, we need more doctors and researchers who can produce ideas, technology, and solutions that provide real benefits to society and the industrial world," he said.

Through its S3 Informatics Programme, UNM as a Digital Business Campus is committed to producing researchers, innovators, and technology leaders ready to face the challenges of the digital era and contribute to accelerating Indonesia’s technological transformation at both national and global levels.
