Unity and integrity crucial
Unity and integrity crucial
From Kompas
Reading Kompas' Sept. 26 edition about moves to unseat
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, I feel that there is some
truth in it, considering the latest political developments in our
country. This is an indication that our nation has put more
stress on authority/power than the will to manage the country
together.
We are facing multi-dimensional crises. If each political
leader is interested in grasping power, I don't think Indonesia
will ever be able to pull through the crises.
A series of successions of presidents will not solve the
problems. Don't try to fool the people, because whoever the
president is the situation will remain the same, if we do not
work together.
Or having a new leader could make the condition worse because
every party would try to get rid of the other. And the obvious
result would be that justice and prosperity would never prevail.
Under these circumstances anyone who loves their country will
stress unity and integrity as a fundamental character in solving
the existing problems. It is not wise to blame each other for
what has been done in the past.
I believe if our politicians and all the nation's leaders are
united and work together to pursue common goals, sooner or later
these goals will be achieved.
Sadly, however, it is an undeniable fact that unity and
integrity are a thing of the past, and the disintegration of the
nation is likely a logical consequence.
