As part of the Astra Group’s commitment to supporting resilient and sustainable community development, PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk, in cooperation with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), held a Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Disaster Resilient Village programme (KATANA) from 22 to 26 June 2026 at UT School Surabaya, East Java. This programme is part of UT’s efforts to support the Astra Group’s social contributions, particularly by strengthening community capacity at the village level to be more prepared, responsive, and self-reliant in facing potential disasters. Through collaboration with the BNPB, participants were equipped with knowledge and skills related to disaster risk reduction, mitigation, preparedness, and emergency response. “Through the KATANA Training of Trainers, UT together with BNPB seeks to strengthen the capacity of village cadres to become facilitators and drivers of preparedness within the community. We believe that communities with knowledge and capability in disaster mitigation will be better prepared to face various risks, so that assisted villages can grow into areas that are more resilient, independent, and empowered,” said Himawan. The training was attended by Disaster Resilient Village cadres from UT’s assisted villages that are members of the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB), namely Sumbergondo, Tulungrejo, Giripurno, Mojorejo, Gumingsir, Tawangargo, Aribaya, and Sumbermujur villages. The activity also involved representatives from the Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD) of Malang Regency, Batu City, Banjarnegara Regency, Lumajang Regency, and the East Java Provincial BPBD as strategic partners in strengthening synergy for disaster risk reduction. Over the five-day programme, participants underwent a series of learning sessions facilitated directly by instructors from BNPB through pre-tests, material delivery, role play, and simulations, all conducted face-to-face. The learning methods were designed so that participants not only understand disaster mitigation concepts but are also able to implement the acquired skills in real situations. Through this training, UT hopes the participants can become facilitators capable of educating their respective communities on the importance of preparedness and disaster risk reduction. The presence of these cadres is expected to strengthen a disaster-aware culture at the village level while encouraging the realisation of communities that are more resilient, self-reliant, and ready to face disasters. The implementation of the KATANA ToT is a manifestation of UT’s commitment as part of the Astra Group to create added value for society. Together with stakeholders, UT will continue to support the strengthening of community capacity as part of efforts to build a safer, more resilient, and sustainable environment.
