United States to Receive $10 Billion from TikTok Acquisition Deal
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The United States government under President Donald Trump will receive a total of $10 billion from an agreement permitting TikTok to continue operating in the country, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
Engadget, on Sunday (15 March), cited a Wall Street Journal report stating that new investors acquiring shares in the US TikTok entity have already paid $2.5 billion to the government when the deal closed in January.
The investor group will continue making payments until the total reaches $10 billion, according to the WSJ report.
An investor consortium comprising technology company Oracle along with investment firms Silver Lake and MGX took over shares in the TikTok US entity, known as TikTok USDS Joint Venture.
The WSJ previously reported that the US government would receive billions of dollars due to its role in facilitating the agreement.
Vice President JD Vance previously stated that the US TikTok entity has a valuation of approximately $14 billion.
The Trump administration has previously been involved in several major deals with US technology and industrial companies.
Last year, the US government invested approximately $8.9 billion in semiconductor company Intel and obtained nearly 9 per cent equity ownership.
Additionally, the Trump administration received a Boeing 747-8 aircraft as a gift from the Qatar government in May last year, described as one of the largest gifts ever received.
