The United States has closed its embassy in Bahrain following Iranian attacks on the US military base in the Gulf nation.

The closure of the US embassy was announced in an official statement, effective 1 March local time.

“In light of the ongoing missile attacks against Bahrain on 28 February, the US Embassy in Bahrain will be closed on Sunday, 1 March 2026,” the embassy stated, according to reports.

All scheduled activities from 1 March have been cancelled. The duration of the closure remains unknown.

“We have cancelled all regular and emergency consular appointments for Sunday, 1 March 2026. We will notify you when the embassy resumes normal operations,” the embassy added.

The US and Israel launched strikes against Iran early on the day of the attacks. Iran subsequently retaliated by launching attacks against US military bases in the Gulf region.

A series of explosions were reported across Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait, following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

According to Bahrain News Agency reports, the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet command centre in Bahrain had become “the target of missile attacks”. Iran’s Fars news agency separately reported that missile strikes had been launched against US military bases in Bahrain.
