United States and Israel Launch Coordinated Strikes on Isfahan; Civilian Casualties Mount in Iran
The United States and Israel have launched coordinated missile strikes against several strategic targets in Isfahan Province in central Iran. The strikes have reportedly killed at least 15 people and triggered a massive retaliation from Tehran.
Iran responded swiftly by launching a series of missile strikes against Israeli territories and claimed to have targeted US military bases in Iraq and Kuwait. Amid this military tension, US President Donald Trump claimed to have received communications from Iran regarding a potential deal, but emphasised that the conditions proposed so far are “not good enough”.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that Tehran’s military had not targeted civilian areas or residential areas during their retaliatory operations in the Middle East, and expressed Iran’s readiness to form a joint investigative committee with neighbouring countries as a demonstration of transparency.
The humanitarian impact of the expanding theatre of war is increasingly alarming. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes have claimed 826 lives and displaced 831,000 people. The humanitarian crisis in Iran has reached critical levels as the impact of airstrikes spreads across central regions. The International Organisation for Migration has reported that waves of displaced persons have now spread to more than 20 provinces across the country, placing severe strain on emergency shelters that have exceeded normal capacity.
Despite local authorities closing airports and most border crossings—particularly the main routes into Iraq—thousands of citizens are risking illegal border crossings to escape. Recent data shows that nearly 32,000 Iranian citizens have crossed into Afghanistan, whilst nearly 4,000 have been documented entering Pakistan. The destruction of public facilities and residential areas in major cities has become a primary driver of increasingly complex and dangerous patterns of population movement.
In Lebanon, the World Health Organisation has reported that 14 medical personnel were killed in the latest airstrikes, bringing total deaths to 826 as the Israel-Hezbollah conflict intensifies. Israel has warned the United States that its stocks of ballistic missile interceptors are depleting as the war with Iran enters its third week with strikes continuing.
