A student from the Nursing programme at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Bandung has achieved national recognition in a public speaking competition. She competed against dozens of students from various Indonesian universities in the National Public Speaking Competition themed ’Synergising in Competition, Creating for the Nation,’ organised by Faletehan University on 27-28 June 2026. Rima Melati, a nursing student at UNISA, presented on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its relation to social inequality, as well as the effectiveness of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) in preventing stunting and anaemia. Rima explained that the preliminary round involved around 50 participants from across Indonesia, with only the top 10 advancing to the final. In the preliminary round, she addressed the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence and Social Inequality: Will Technology Replace Opportunity?’, discussing the impact of AI development on society. After qualifying for the final, she delivered a speech on the health theme ‘The Impact of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme on the Prevention of Stunting and Anaemia.’ Despite having only one day to prepare, she used the time to compile materials, deepen her references, and practise to ensure an optimal delivery. Rima stated that the competition was an invaluable experience, testing not only her public speaking skills but also her critical thinking, argumentation, and ability to propose solutions to societal issues. She attributed her success to the learning process, hard work, and support from various parties. ‘Alhamdulillah, the entire process went smoothly until I achieved this national-level accomplishment,’ she said. For her, the award is not just about the final result but also proof that sincerity, hard work, and the courage to seize opportunities can lead to proud achievements, even when faced with time constraints. She also expressed her appreciation to UNISA Bandung, her family, and her colleagues for their support throughout the preparation and competition. The facilities provided by the campus and the encouragement from those closest to her motivated her to deliver her best performance and bring honour to UNISA Bandung at the national level. ‘I want to invite all students not to hesitate to participate in competitions as a means of developing their potential. Do not be afraid to try just because you feel unprepared or fear failure,’ she added. She emphasised that every opportunity is a chance to learn, grow, and broaden one’s experience, hoping her achievement will motivate other students to continue creating, achieving, and bringing honour to UNISA Bandung both nationally and internationally.
