Unimal Aceh Electrical Engineering Students Win Two International Awards in Malaysia
Universitas Malikussaleh (Unimal) Aceh is further strengthening its international presence. Two student teams from the Electrical Engineering Study Programme, representing the pride of the North Aceh and Lhokseumawe communities, have successfully secured two prestigious global-level awards.
These Silver Awards were achieved through technological innovation at an international event organised by Kolej Vokasional Sultan Ahmad Shah, Malaysia, on 15 September 2026.
The first award was earned through a project titled “State of Charge Estimation Experiment on Machine Learning-Based Hybrid Energy Harvesting System Using ESP32”. This innovation focuses on experiments in State of Charge (SoC) estimation using machine learning within a hybrid energy harvesting system, utilising the ESP32 microcontroller. The first team comprised Teuku Imam Fradhean Fred, Muhammad Fathi Annaqi Lubis, Azzuhra Nayla Evana Saragih, and Riki Azril.
Meanwhile, the second award was achieved by a team developing the project “Development of a Bluetooth-Based Electronic Stethoscope with a Music Feature to Support Child-Friendly Examinations”. This Bluetooth-based electronic stethoscope innovation includes a music feature to support child-friendly health examinations. The second team consisted of Novra, Gianina Inaya, Nyak Qurratu Aini, and Rafli Hamdan Farabi. Both teams were directly supervised by Prof. Arnawan Hasibuan.
The Coordinator of the Electrical Engineering Study Programme at Unimal, Teuku Multazam, stated that this achievement proves Unimal students are not only academically excellent but also capable of producing competitive innovations on a global level.
“We greatly appreciate this achievement. These two Silver Awards demonstrate that Unimal Electrical Engineering students possess the creativity, technical ability, and courage to bring their innovations to the international stage,” Teuku Multazam told Media Indonesia on Saturday (12/9).
Multazam, a native of Meunasah Mulieng, Meureudu, Pidie Jaya, expressed hope that this achievement would motivate other students to be more active in research and competitions. He emphasised the importance of implementing knowledge into works that benefit society.
“We want the culture of innovation to continue to grow. Students must not only be users of technology but must be able to become developers of technology in the fields of energy, electronics, IoT, and artificial intelligence,” he added.
The Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Unimal, Prof. Arnawan Hasbuuan, accompanied by the Department Secretary Andik Bintoro, asserted that this international achievement is a positive indicator for the development of academic activities within the department.
“This achievement is the result of the students’ enthusiasm in developing multidisciplinary skills. Mastery of technologies such as machine learning, energy systems, and Bluetooth communication serves as essential capital for meeting industrial needs,” explained Arnawan.
He added that participation in international competitions provides valuable experience, particularly in teamwork and solving technical problems. The department is committed to continuously supporting student activities oriented towards research and innovation to strengthen the academic culture within the Universitas Malikussaleh environment.
