Unilever wins Energy Global Awards
JAKARTA: PT Unilever Indonesia, the local arm of the global consumer products giant, has received an International Energy Global Award in the Water category in recognition of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The company said in its press release that its social program in Surabaya -- which is conducted through the Unilever Peduli Foundation and has empowered residents of four villages along Brantas river to implement waste management since 2000 -- was one of 700 programs submitted to the awards committee.
The Austria-based awards committee has handed over awards in five categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth. The Energy Globe Awards 2005 handing over ceremony will take place in March at the International Environmental Technology Fair 2006 in Vancouver, Canada.
Unilever is the first Indonesian company to be given an International Energy Global Award since the awards were initiated five years ago. -- JP
