Unilever to Build Global Supply Chain Hub in Sei Mangkei SEZ
Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Secretary Susiwijono Moegiarso has revealed investment plans by a global retail and supply chain company in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK), North Sumatra. Susi stated that consumer goods company Unilever Global will open a supply chain hub in the KEK next month. “KEK Sei Mangkei is in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra. Unilever Global is making a very large investment there. Next month they will break ground on a new programme,” he said when met by journalists at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday (6/7/2026). “KEK Sei Mangkei will be made a hub for the global value chain. So its position is already good,” he continued. Unfortunately, Susi has not yet disclosed the investment value or the number of jobs to be created by the Unilever Global project. Nevertheless, he confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony at KEK Sei Mangkei will definitely take place next month and will be attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. “The request has already been made because this August they are inviting the Coordinating Minister and us to inaugurate Unilever Global’s new project. It is a genuine investment realisation, not just a commitment,” he added.
