Unilever to Build Global Supply Chain Hub in Sei Mangkei SEZ

The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijando Moegiarso, has revealed plans for investment by global retail and supply chain companies within the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in North Sumatra.

Susi stated that the global consumer goods company, Unilever, will open a supply chain hub in the Sei Mangkei SEZ next month.

“The Sei Mangkei SEZ is located in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra. Unilever Global is making a very large investment there. They will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new programme next month,” she said when met by members of the press at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday (6/7/2026).

“The Sei Mangkei SEZ is being positioned as a hub for the global value chain. Therefore, its position is very advantageous,” she added.

Unfortunately, Susi did not disclose the specific investment value or the number of jobs that will be created by this Unilever Global project.

Nevertheless, she emphasised that the groundbreaking ceremony in the Sei Mangkei SEZ will certainly take place next month and will be attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

“A request has already been made because this August, we are inviting the Coordinating Minister to officially inaugurate this new project from Unilever Global. This is a realised investment, not just a commitment,” she concluded.
